AEM Senior Vice President Nick Yaksich joined Thom Iles from John Deere to travel to Juneau last week to urge lawmakers not to support HB 67, a proposal to overhaul state dealer and warranty laws to the detriment of equipment manufacturers.Alaska legislators voted this week to end legislative work unrelated to the state budget, meaning an AEM-opposed bill to reshape state dealer laws may not receive consideration this session.
HB 67 would have rewritten laws governing product warranties between U.S. manufacturers and dealers in Alaska such that equipment manufacturers would have had to shoulder more of the burden in honoring product warranties.
AEM made this case directly to legislators in Alaska’s state capital, visiting over half of the lawmakers in opposition to HB 67.
The Alaska legislature’s decision to suspend work on all action except for the budget means that HB 67 won’t move forward for the time being. AEM will continue to actively monitor the status of the Alaska legislation along with any other state proposals.
