Manufacturing and construction industry leaders pushed Congress to make sustainable surface transportation funding a priority as part of tax reform at this year’s Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) Fly-In.

Industry leaders stormed Capitol Hill on Wednesday to ask members of Congress to sign a letter urging tax-writing committees to identify a sustainable funding course for the Highway Trust Fund. Just months ago, Congress passed a five-year highway bill that relies on a series of patchwork fixes to fund the length of the legislation.

Participating AEM members gathered for a legislative briefing by the TCC and the Highway Materials Group on Tuesday, which included remarks from leading lawmakers like Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Reps. Sam Graves (R-Mo.) and Jim Renacci (R-Ohio).

AEM Director and Caterpillar Group President Rob Charter represented AEM in introducing one speaker during the legislative briefing. Charter introduced AASHTO COO Jim Tymon, who delivered remarks on how state departments of transportation are implementing last year’s highway bill.
